SHLOMIT BEZEK GURFINKEL

Shlomit Bezek-Gurfinkel is a self-taught artist.
After experimenting with a variety of materials, in recent years she has found clay to be a platform that allows her to express herself freely.
“Clay connects me in a direct and primal way, both to myself and to the world around me. It 'speaks' my feelings and experiences from a deep, and sometimes even unconscious place."
About six years ago, Shlomit and her family emigrated to Portugal. This exhibition features works created after this move, mainly during the past year, following the brutal terrorist attacks that occurred in Israel on October 7, 2023.
"The artworks reflect the processes of internal and external change that this period has brought to me: questions of identity, feelings of loneliness, the movement and connection from the country I came from to an unfamiliar place, a new culture, and a new inner space that emerged within me as a result of this experience."
All of these are expressed through the combination of different materials, techniques, and textures, as well as the use of elements of fractures and cracks.
"For me, clay is, above all, a language. A language that tells of a journey, of change, of breaking and renewal, and of fascinating, sometimes unexpected, connections."
I invite you to touch, to feel, to connect, and to experience the change yourself.
